I have read many books and one has made a significant difference in my life. A COURSE IN MIRACLES® published by the FOUNDATION FOR INNER PEACE. The first lesson, from my point of view, is that the most significant miracle is love. There are no small miracles and they are happening every day. DAILY MEDITATIONS for Practicing THE COURSE by Karen Casey is a wonderful way to begin every day. This meditation is particularly appropriate for me. Maybe it will be helpful to you, too.

Each day is a new beginning.

Being here, now, is all there is. That can be a comforting idea. Whatever disrupted our lives yesterday or when we were children no longer has any control over us. Past experiences are gone forever. If we are haunted by a memory, it's our choice. But why would we want to feel sad or violated or abandoned all over again?

We hang on to the past because we think it defines all that we can be. The Course tells us that we are whoever we want to be. It's all in the mind. Being happy and successful and full of love for ourselves and absolutely everybody we meet seems a far-fetched dream. It can be our reality though. How? Simply experience each moment with the help and love of the Holy Spirit. Let those eyes see for us. Let that heart feel for us. Let that voice speak for us.

What makes us mad at any moment is really a past event triggered by the present experience. Why keep living the same old circumstances again?

I will see today as new. Nothing from my past is here, now, unless I bring it.

Peaceful Evening

Tonight the air is cleaner than it's been for a while,
The rain has stopped and the night has moved in around me.
There are problems in the world and they touch my heart,
Yet, I feel the aura of love and kindness all around me.

Tonight I can rest with a heart that is light and thankful,
The future will come no matter what I do and that's okay.
I realize that there will always be heartache in the world,
Along with many pleasures too, I'd have it no other way.

The things I lose help me to appreciate what I have,
The work I do helps me to appreciate my life more.
I know that I may never be rich and famous in my life,
But my needs are met and I have so much more.

I see the fruits of my labor in the lives of my children,
As they go into the world and find their own way to live.
I am proud as I watch them reach out to make a difference,
I see them helping others, never taking more than they give.

In this world, we can only be happy if we help each other,
I hope that I do that every day in some small way.
If I can help you carry your load, help you free your heart,
Then I know that I have made good use of my day.

Tonight the air is cleaner than it's been for a while,
My eyes are heavy and I have a peaceful feeling in my heart.
Sleep will find me and maybe I'll dream of an exotic island,
I'll face the morning knowing that it's a brand new start.
