Every fantastic feline has a story and Princess is no exception. I found her in the garage when doing laundry and she promptly moved in. Princess has always been such a loving feline and took to me immediately, as I did to her. That was in 1990 and, from what I have learned from a neighbor, she had a litter of kittens who were adults and living in the area. Princess had been spayed, but she came to my apartment and adopted me. I am convinced she chose me because she felt that I was trainable.

Princess earned her name. When she came in the apartment, she would head straight for the refrigerator demanding her dollop of half and half. Princess has always had a bit of an attitude, as does any feline, so we always called her The Princess. In time, however, we dropped "the" and she is Princess. She is such a beautiful feline and I love her. Princess loves me right back . . . she gives so much with a look, her warmth and those wonderful purrs.

While we lived in Richmond, California Princess was being a wonderful little mommy . . . she hunted every day and brought me many mice. She was training me and I wasn't doing well, so she just kept bringing those mice and some were rather large. You must realize that we lived in a second story apartment and she jumped the fence, jumped on the six foot fence, jumped up to the balcony, then maneuvered herself up and came in the sliding glass door with her prize. Princess was an amazing huntress! The one thing for which I am eternally grateful is that Princess did not drop her catch on me while I was sleeping! She knew just how far to push me and she liked to come in at night and sleep with me.

There was another feline, Cheyenne, who lived next door. Now this is a story you won't easily forget. For some reason Princess detested Cheyenne . . . and Cheyenne was terrified of Princess. If Cheyenne even heard the name, Princess, she would cut and run. I never knew why then and still don't. The neighbor told me about a particular indicent which was very funny. Seems that both Princess and Cheyenne had a favorite area in which they liked to take in the sunshine. There is a chain link fence overgrown with ivy at a PG&E (Utility Company) substation. Cheyenne was already there when Princess arrived and took offense, attacking Cheyenne immediately! Cheyenne finally made a run for it to climb the fence only to have Princess grab her and pull her back in the fenced area and proceeded to beat her up. Well . . . the neighbor managed to break it up and Cheyenne got over the fence and home. She wasn't hurt but badly shaken. I even caught Princess on the balcony railing about to launch herself into their apartment just to get Cheyenne. I told the neighbor about it and suggested that he keep that window closed and open the one at the other end. Whew!

About this time I learned that I was a Nana with an eight month old granddaughter and my life changed considerably! Princess wasn't exactly certain what to do with this baby who cried so loudly and we didn't do anything to make her stop. Princess would look at the baby, pace a bit, then head for the front door and just stand there. She wanted out! Eventually my beautiful granddaughter ceased all the loud crying and everything settled down so Princess stopped leaving. Princess was a mama and she just didn't know how to deal with this human baby. LOL!

I then met Tim and we embarked on a romantic relationship. Everything seemed to be so perfect . . . we had so much in common and so much to share. Tim is a very spiritual person and wanted to share what he had learned with me. Our relationship developed and we were becoming very close. My family had just decided to move to a house in Oakland near Lake Merritt so I was very busy for a while getting all my belongings moved and established. Princess came with me, of course. We had the large bedroom on the second floor at the front of the house. Had plenty of room so Princess and I were content.

Tim and I were spending a lot of time together and I ended up spending a great deal of time on his sailboat. I loved this house and my room and wanted to spend time with my family and Princess in this house. Tim and I did spend a lot of time at the house, but he wanted to be on his boat more and more. Well . . . it is his home. Eventually we moved onto his sailboat . . . Princess and I. It was a major adjustment, especially for Princess as she was constantly tempted to go outside and it was dangerous for her. Besides . . . she wanted to break into the boat next to us. I even found her aboard a large fishing boat on the foredeck! Princess looked right at home. Princess hated it when we went sailing . . . the minute the engine was turned on she would disappear. I just had to be sure she was in the aft cabin instead of the chain locker!

Cottage in Boulder CreekEventually we moved to Boulder Creek where we had a lovely cabin and she had run of the place. Princess loved this place. She had three windows where she loved to sit and watch the squirrells and other felines. When I returned from work, Princess would be sitting in the large front window waiting for me. Princess is a very beautiful and loving feline.

I mentioned that Princess would watch the outdoor felines. At one point there were 20 feral felines on the property. Absolutely no one was doing anything about them and there were some pregnant felines. There would be a couple hundred felines in no time if they kept reproducing so I located a cat rescue program. Princess was not one bit happy when we rescued four kittens and brought them into the house with their mother. However, we found homes for the kittens. Most of the cats were a catch, spay/neuter, immunize, and release. One feline, Shadow, was placed as a barn cat . . . she just would not socialize but thrived in this environment. I did, however, get caught in my own trap when I made friends with Salem who has his own web page.

I update this page as I remember different stories about my life with Princess, the Fantastic Feline. She still lives with me and it is a wonderful relationship. There will be more photos of Princess in time . . . she is difficult to photograph due to her complex coloring. It is, however, a joy when I finally get the photo "just right".

I decided to add pages for Princess to expand her adventures. Princess has such a marvelous sense of humor and takes such wonderful care of me. We've been together for many years and work with each other.
